Yan Tan Tethera Creative is the brainchild of Karen Thompson, who after 25 years of working in the cultural sector across commercial, civic and third sector organisations, decided in 2020 to set up her own company to develop arts and entertainment projects in and for the communities of West Cumbria and to offer services and creative solutions in strategic business planning, project development, general management, producing and programming, marketing and audience development.
She has a particular interest in projects that develop under-represented voices and narratives, specifically in her home ground. She strongly believes in improving representation in the cultural sector, particularly working class representation, is not just a salve for the current drive for diversity, but also for long term development and sustainability for cultural organisations.
Her clients include Allerdale Borough Council, Rosehill Arts Trust, Hadrian's Wall Partnership and the Castle Hill Trust. She co-ordinates the Maryport Arts and Heritage Partnership and the Made In Maryport Cultural Programme.
